This season preview and contributors' brunch supports the organization's Tenth Annual Season of Dance and includes sneak-peek performances of upcoming works in the 2011-2012 event season.
A Decade of Dance takes current and prospective contributors on an inspiring journey through the organization's history, accomplishments and vision for continued success in the community.
Event activities include:
A brunch reception Silent auction featuring: framed and autographed celebrity photos (Justin Bieber, cast of Twilight, cast of Harry Potter and more!), tickets to the Blue Man Group, resort and spa packages, VIP tickets to sporting events and much, much, more! Over the past 10 years The Center for Contemporary Dance has served as a dance production, education and incubation center, launching and supporting 9 local contemporary/modern dance companies. The organization has received major awards from United Arts of Central Florida, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. In addition to place-based dance education programs that serve 500 diverse students each year, CCD's community programs annually reach more than 1,000 young students in public schools across 5 Central Florida counties. Special outreach projects also engage and impact underrepresented populations, including the elderly, persons with special needs and at-risk youth from low-income neighborhoods. Mr. Harry Burney
actor/singer/advocate
Among other guest speakers, Mr. Harry Burney will take event attendees through the inspiring story of The Center for Contemporary Dance. Mr. Burney is a veteran actor/performer with credits that include Broadway, television, film and operas around the world. He was featured as Choirmaster in the film Autumn in New York starring Richard Gere. An animated HBO feature, Jammin Animals, showcases Burney’s voice and he was recently featured at NYC’s Symphony Space in Wall-to-Wall Weill. He appears on Nickelodeon daily as Ellington in Allegra’s Window, and was seen as Mr. Dawson on Nickelodeon’s Kenan and Kai. Mr. Burney is the Creative Consultant for Bethune-Cookman University’s Performing Arts Center. He has also served as Creative Consultant for the New York Public School System, the Brooklyn Library System and Walt Disney World Entertainment. Across the globe, Mr. Burney has achieved recognition for his unique approaches to teaching multi-cultural education and is sought after by school districts, universities, and government agencies. Known as the “Song & Story Man,” Mr. Burney performs stories and songs from African-based traditions, translating them into universal experiences. His involvement with youth is well-documented, including board membership with Very Special Arts – Florida.

Cultivated the next generation of dancers by providing more than $100,000 in scholarships to talented students from financially-challenged families; 94% of scholarship students go on to attend a university dance program.
